How To Make Money With Google Adsense

Whether you own a large or small website, Google have made it easy for you to make money from their Adsense scheme. At this website we provide you with an overview of Adsense that describes how to get started, an online course that explains how the system works and an Adsense Simulator to help you design your pages.

Assuming you have a decent website, the first step is to

Assuming you have already signed up, the next question is whether it is possible to make more money from Google Adsense than you are currently making. The answer to this is most probably 'yes'.

The Mother of All Tips

There are many websites, books, forums etc. that offer lots of tricks, all claiming to help you to make more money from Google Adsense. However, every site is different, and what works on one site may not work on another. Whilst a 'tip' or 'secret' may have worked on the site of the person giving the tip, it may not work for you.

The only way that you can increase the money you earn from Google's Adsense scheme is for you to measure and test. Measuring involves collecting data on the performance of your individual pages or channels. Testing means trying different ad placements, or some of the various 'tips and tricks' that work for other publishers, and assessing the impact on your earnings. This will enable you to find out what works on your site.

Measurement

The main tool you have to measure performance is the 'channel' facility in the Adsense set up screen. There are two main types of channels: custom and URL. The data reported from custom channels tends to be more accurate (it includes cached pages, for example) but URLs tend to be easier to set up and manage. If you are not sure which to go for, we recommend that you set up URL channels because of their ease of use and the fact that one element of 'smart pricing' (covered in our online Adsense course)probably works on a page basis. Set up channels for all your pages, or if you have more than 200 pages, for your most popular pages, so you can see the performance of particular pages.

Testing

In testing you make changes and see what impact it has on your earnings. But testing can be a time-consuming and expensive process. Earnings from the scheme can fluctuate, so when you introduce a change it can take days or weeks to see the trend and assess the impact on your income. To help shorten the testing process, we have an Adsense Simulator that allows you to test out changes in a spreadsheet, and find the type of ad layout that will maximise your income. Our online course shows you how to use it. However, just because some thing works in the simulator it doesn't mean it will work on your site. You should therefore test it on a part of your site before making any wholesale changes.

Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks to consider using in the simulator or on your site to increase your income. Remember that they may not work for you, so you should measure and test them all.
