I dislike how ‘sales’ and ‘time’ driven we are, rather than quality-driven. I find it hard to ask for help (especially when working individually and no resources are allocated to me and people are busy and sometimes unwilling to help), but in order to succeed I need help understanding new features in our system. I like the analytical side, and I also like the interaction with customers when I’m training or involved in a project. I dislike the politics though and the financial wrangling. I like solving problems and finding ways to improve systems or design useful new systems. I dislike having to write long, boring documents describing these systems and solutions, and also having to deal with the tedious practicalities of deploying a new system, and having to ensure that other people do their job on time (without actually having any authority over them), and finally having to work with systems that are badly designed and full of bugs and errors, which creates a lot of uncertainty and stress, while at the same time dealing with underqualified and/or negatively-minded users that just don’t work well with these systems.
